Objective
The State of Louisiana is at the verge of having a major
new computing network, Louisiana Optical Network
Initiative (LONI,) that will provide a valuable resource
for leading-edge research in many fields that have
advanced computing needs. The objective of this
symposium is to familiarize university faculty with some
of the diverse applications-focused high-speed and grid
computing research activities related to LONI, to
explore new collaborative research and educational
opportunities with regional partners, and to explore how
to strategically align LONI with new Southern University
initiatives, such as the formation of the Southern
University Business & Research Corporation (SUBRC).
The central focus of this initiative will be to promote
business partnering in education, research, and
entrepreneurial activities for faculty and staff through
the development of collaborations with specific
government and commercial organizations. The core
activities of the Park will include: business
partnering, research and development, federal
contracting, information technology, entrepreneurship,
and economic & community development. Southern
University would like to utilize its resources to be an
active participant in the Louisiana Optical Network
Initiative (LONI) and a viable resource in changing
Louisiana¡¦s education, research, and economic landscape.
