Dr. Lionel D.
Lyles
Dr. Lionel D. Lyles received his doctorate degree from
the University of Colorado, Boulder in August 1977 in
the following areas: contemporary urban socio-economic
geography and environmental justice. He has worked on
the academic staff of the University of Northern
Colorado, Grambling State University, Morgan State
University, and Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA.
Since 2000, Dr. Lyles has received technical training at
John C. Stennis Space Center in the areas of Remote
Sensing and Geographical Information Systems analysis.
He teaches GIS as part of his Principles of Geography
221 course at Southern University. Moreover, he is the
Research Thrust Lead for Landuse/Landcover Change, which
is a component of the $5.8 million Center for Coastal
Zone Assessment and Remote Sensing Program (CCZARS)
sponsored by NASA. Dr. Lyles has written two books;
preparing a third for publication; and he is preparing
several articles for publication dealing with Landuse/Landcover
Change related to Louisiana Coastal Zone erosion.
